When You Need Support

Just as you would consult a doctor for a physical health condition, it's crucial to seek professional help for mental illness or substance use disorders. There is no shame in experiencing these challenges, and recovery is indeed possible.

Historically, the stigma surrounding mental health has led to shunning those affected. However, there's a growing movement towards destigmatization, with more public figures openly discussing their mental health challenges and taking action to address them.

Globally, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that approximately 1 in 8 people, or about 970 million individuals, experience a mental health disorder. In the U.S., the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) reports that around 21 million adults had at least one major depressive episode in 2020, equating to 8.4% of the adult population. Additionally, nearly 31.1% of adults will experience an anxiety disorder in their lifetime.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) estimates that about 40 million U.S. adults, or 14.5% of the adult population, faced a substance use disorder in 2021. About 14.5 million adults had an alcohol use disorder in 2019, and the CDC noted over 100,000 drug overdose deaths in 2021, with synthetic opioids involved in over 66% of those cases. Furthermore, the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) highlights that around 50% of individuals with severe mental health disorders also contend with substance use disorders.
